Student and Alumni Spotlights for the Creative Writing Program

I chose to come to Belhaven because... I wanted to experience a new place and a new culture. Also, when I was a senior in high school, I decided I wanted to pursue a Creative Writing degree, and Belhaven University is the only Christian school to offer a B.F.A. in Creative Writing.

One relationship that has meant a lot to me while attending Belhaven University... Well of course, I met the love of my life, my fiancé, at Belhaven. He's from Alabama, so the chance of us meeting anywhere else was pretty slim. I also had the privilege to be mentored by award-winning novelist Howard Bahr, who teaches part time at Belhaven. His advice and understanding about my writing has been invaluable.

Because of my degree from Belhaven University... I have developed and matured as a writer. Whatever I decide to explore for my career and further schooling after I graduate, I know that my time at Belhaven has strengthened my writing in ways I didn't know was possible.

One word to describe my experience at Belhaven: Adventure.
