Student and Alumni Spotlights for the History Program
Name: Rex M. Bradshaw
Minor: Creative Writing
Hometown: Lebanon, Oregon
Fact: My favorite author is G.K. Chesterton
I chose to attend Belhaven because... of the reputation of the institution, good reports from relatives who attend, its Christian worldview, and an encouraging scholarship.
One relationship that has meant a lot to me while attending Belhaven University... would be that of a great number of the professors, even some whom I have only known outside of class. Within my specific focus, history, Drs. Busbee and Waibel have shown great sensitivity to the needs of the student and knowledge of their field. The supplement of my minor has given me the chance to work with such inspiring characters as Dr. Smith and Mr. Bahr. Outside of these, I have had the privilege of interacting with many intelligent and fascinating professors from a variety of departments, including Art, English, Philosophy, Biology, and Music, as well as a pastiche of students from nearly every available discipline.
Because of my degree from Belhaven University... I will be prepared to attend graduate school and one day (it is my hope) to teach history and write on the side. In both the personal and professional precincts of self, I have been assisted in ineffable ways by the entire experience. I have grown and been set on a path of growth.
One word to describe my experience at Belhaven: Legacy-leaving. Yes, it is technically a compound word, but I think it adequately expresses the impact that Belhaven has had on the shaping of my thoughts and the crystallization of my worldview.
