Trevor Thomas

"I will graduate with a B.F.A. in Visual Art with an emphasis in painting. I began drawing at a very early age and was encouraged by my family and my love of Impressionists painters. I'm intrigued by the effects of color and light, and include Impressionist techniques in my work. I appreciate all the experiences I've had at Belhaven and hope to make art more accessible to all interested students in the future."

Trevor Thomas

"I chose to attend Belhaven because of the nice size of the campus and I can get to know everybody and interact with my professors more. Because of my degree from Belhaven, I plan on going into a form of video game design. I see myself involved in some sort of graphic design company in the near future."

Ben Laws

"My continuous line pieces began with a lingering interest in the doodles my father left around the house while on phone calls, and evolved as I began to explore the potential behind one (or two) line's journey across a surface. They explore themes of gestalt, hyper focus and motivated perception – merging my interest in generative forms and fine detail."

Ben Laws. 2023

"I came to Belhaven because of its accreditation in all of the arts. It is especially helpful since I am a double major in Graphic Design and Theatre. Because of my degree from Belhaven, I will be able to head out into the world with a strong foundation in acting, as well as be well-rounded enough to take on other theatre related jobs."

"I"ll graduate with a B.A. in Tradigital Studies, with an emphasis in sculpture. I use 3D prints and discarded plastic filament to create abstract sculptures. I'm inspired by metalworkers and emerging technologies, so my work reflects the many possibilities of machines used in unusual ways. I also use unconventional methods of digital photography, such as laser engraving my photos into glass."

Mollie Jones

"At Belhaven, I immediately felt at home and with the help from my peers and professors, I began to develop my voice as an artist. I enjoy exploring organic and geometric patterns through graphic design, drawing, and mixed-media sculptures."

Crimsom Guidry

"I've always loved arts and crafts and decided to study Graphic Design at a community college. After graduating from there, I decided to continue my studies at Belhaven University. I can't wait to graduate with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design. I hope to travel and network with other artists after I graduate before returning home to bring resources and opportunities to my community."

Aza Raye

"I came to Belhaven to learn more about he artistic process and develop the skills necessary for an illustrator. Although drawing is still a major part of my artistic process, I have become immersed in traditional darkroom photography. Film allows me to capture my love of decay and the way it expresses the effects of time and nature. Through photography, I strive to bring life and presence back to locations that echo with memories long forgotten."

Aza Raye

"I chose to attend Belhaven because of the small size and Christian atmosphere. I knew that I would get more personal attention here than at a larger university. When I visited Belhaven my senior year I knew that this was the place for me. Upon graduating, I am ready to start my career in graphic design. The assignments I am given in class are not only fun, but they also teach me how to solve design problems and give me experiences that are necessary to be a successful designer."

Kelsey Johnsen

Lamana Stringfellow

"When I came here, I was struck by the loving community that Belhaven offered and encouraged. I was able to pursue my love of art within multiple forms of expression and cultivate a love of God through them. My experience here has been very encouraging."

Lauren Watts

"I will graduate with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design. I love helping people find their voice through branding design. I also makes sculptures by meticulously arranging discarded materials and incasing them with fire-burned wood. My “Reflect, Restore” began with burned glass found in the rubble of a local house fire. Through a process of photography, collecting, and a lot of trial and error this abstract sculpture became an exploration of how God brings order to chaos. In both my life and work I've seen how God uses evil for his goodness by restoring the burned and broken into meaningful beauty."

Lauren Watts

"The Art Department at Belhaven is like no other department I’ve seen. The professors truly love what they teach and actively practice in their own art processes. My favorite part about this department is the community student studios!  Having the freedom to see what other classmates are working on is an inspiration and a learning tool to better understanding what art is."

Melissa Gentry

Zacchaeus Cloy

"I'm excited to graduate with a B.F.A in Graphic Design and a B.A. in Music. I plan to pursue music education and freelance art and design work after graduating. My drawings and sculpture are built from layers of intuitive marks and forms."

Zacchaeus Cloy. 2023

Savannah Wimberly

"I will graduate with B.A. in Graphic Design and a minor in Visual Art. I've always made art with a variety of media, but during my time at Belhaven I decided to hone in on my love for oil painting and graphic design. I focus on exploring what is underneath the surface and discerning what most may overlook. I like to reframe personal experiences from my life by adding an uncanny and illusive twist to create a surreal, dream-like scene."

Savannah Wimberly

"At the Belhaven Art Department, you get so much more than simply art classes. I have learned so much about myself, my process, and my relationship with the Lord as I follow him on this path. This department has been a huge blessing to me."
