Major: Bachelor of Science in Arts Administration
Joseph Frost, Chair of the Department
The Bachelor of Science in Arts Administration gives students the knowledge, skills, and training necessary to administrate the commercial side of the arts in a variety of settings. In this accredited degree program, business concepts are applied to theatre, dance, music, and visual art. The arts administration degree teaches students how to plan and coordinate public relations and marketing efforts and examine the legal rights and responsibilities of artists and arts institutions. In the diverse world of arts organizations, it is essential to understand copyright law, board structure, fund-raising, grant writing, and other management tasks related to running programs and shows. Belhaven's arts administration degree provides this important foundation for students.
Like all Belhaven degrees, this program is based on a Christian curriculum and biblical worldview. Arts administration is a challenging and expanding field, growing in Christian leadership, with exciting career options that include: Arts Administrator, Arts Agent/Promoter, Community Arts Worker, Theatre Manager, Artistic Director, Managing Director, Executive Director, Box Office Manager, and Arts Marketer. Students within this degree track must complete an arts administration internship/practicum within the Belhaven University School of the Arts, local art organization, or performing arts company.
