The Belhaven University’s Dance Clinic provides medical services for the students, faculty, and staff by a certified athletic trainer. The dance athletic trainer focuses on preventing, recognizing, managing, and rehabilitating injuries. The dance athletic trainer’s day may include the following tasks:
- Prevention of injuries—strength training and conditioning programs are available to utilize as a supplemental training program to enhance a better understanding of functional anatomy and biomechanics of dancer specific movements as well as overall health and well being
- Assessment and evaluation of injuries
- Administration of therapeutic modalities and/or exercises for rehabilitation
To ensure safety of a dancer’s body, the dance athletic trainer assists the students on strength, flexibility, fitness, as well as other areas of dancers’ health and wellness. The effective prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services rendered to the students truly facilitate their education and overall well-being. The dance athletic trainer is available daily in the dance clinic, as well as pre, during, and post-performance for the dancers needs.
