Student and Alumni Spotlights for the Dance Program
Name: Caitlin Wheeler
Hometown: Vacaville, CA
Fact:Growing up we lived in the country in WA and raised llamas on a five-acre hay farm, which I do miss sometimes.
I chose to come to Belhaven because... when I lived in Washington State, Ballet Magnificat came to my little Cecchetti School where they performed the story of Moses and taught us master classes. (I can still remember watching Mr. Jiri whom we all loved because of his huge smile.) At the time they had just began to work with Belhaven University in creating the dance portion of the school. What blew me away was how these adult dancers took the time to talk to us about the school as if we were not just children and because of their professionalism; at nine years of age, I came home and told my mom I knew where I was going to college. Now I’m here!
One relationship that has meant a lot to me while attending Belhaven...out of the many irreplaceable and wonderful relationships that are still being cultivated here at Belhaven University, I’d have to say the one that has meant the most to me personally is Dr. Hubele and his amazing family. My very first semester at Belhaven, the Hubele’s took me in and kind of “surprise adopted” me into their family. This has been such a blessing knowing that I always have somewhere I can go and a family I am welcome with at any time, whether I need to discuss deep topics or just relax laugh and watch Christmas movies with. I thank God that He nurtured this relationship and is continuing to foster and grow it.
Because of my degree from Belhaven University... I will be better equipped for my future career. Also, because of the well rounded education, I will be walking away from Belhaven with much more than just a BFA in Dance. Though the work load for a dancer is a great deal to take on and can be stressful and strenuous at times, I know that my education here is better preparing me for the world than the other schools that I know of which require a small amount of courses and course work. I hope to serve the Kingdom to the best of my ability!
