Prof. Braden Graves is a scenic and lighting designer, technical director, and applied theatre researcher. Braden’s designs are often very sculptural and minimalistic with special attention given to material choice and paint treatments.
He received his undergraduate degree in theatre from George Fox University in Portland, Oregon, and completed his MFA training at The Ohio State University. While in Oregon, he designed and built several shows for Broadway Rose Theatre Company and served as a technical director for Woodburn High School. While in Ohio, Braden has designed and built numerous productions for Actors Theatre Columbus, The Sound Company, and CATCO. He also served as a designer and fabricator for Curtis Elliott Design Ltd.
Braden’s designs have been recognized by the Kennedy Center for American College Theatre, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, and the Southeastern Theatre Conference. Braden was featured in an emerging artist showcase at the USITT national convention in 2023.
Braden teaches courses in theatre design, stagecraft, and stage management. He also serves as the faculty scenic and lighting designer for department productions. When not working on theatre productions, Braden is probably spending time with his wife and two children or planning another home renovation project. Braden also loves hiking, fishing, and fine woodworking.
