From December 4, 2008 to January 19, 2009, the Gallery will showcase All That I Can’t Leave Behind, a collection of works by acclaimed Mississippi artist Lea Barton. The show reflects both Barton’s childhood memories of growing up in Mississippi and her later efforts to define what it means to be from the South. “Barton combines collage and paint with photography and printmaking techniques to create richly layered works exploring the material and political history of the South, dissecting female stereotypes of Antebellum and contemporary Southern culture,” states Gretchen Haien, Associate Professor of Art at Belhaven.
This event is open to the community, with an opening reception on Thursday, December 4, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
