June 3, 2009—Greg Hawkins has been named Dean of Student Life at Belhaven College. Greg graduated Magna Cum Laude from Belhaven in 2005 as a Biblical Studies major, and he is pursuing a Master of Arts in Higher Education from Geneva College. He has been the Men’s Resident Director since his return to Belhaven in 2006, and his significant promotion follows former Dean Brent Kooi’s departure for missionary work in Japan.
Scott Little, Vice President for Student Affairs and Athletics, remarks that “Greg has served faithfully in our Student Affairs division in the pivotal role of Resident Director for our Men’s Residence Halls. He has also worked closely with Brent Kooi in matters related to discipline and residence life. With Brent’s transition to the mission field in Japan, Greg is just the right guy to lead us into the days ahead.”
As a Belhaven alumnus, Greg is excited to give back what he experienced as a student. He says, “I am excited about transitioning into this new role at Belhaven. My passion for student life and Belhaven College first began when I started my undergrad experience here which has greatly influenced who I have become today. I learned a lot from my previous mentor and hope to partner with other staff and faculty to foster an environment where students are able to grow in wisdom and awareness while discovering their calling.”
As Dean of Student Life, Greg will work to ensure that the college’s mission is promoted through partnering with faculty, staff, and students in the common goal of developing mature and discerning men and women who seek to impact the world through service to Christ and others.
