July 31, 2009—Former Belhaven College pitcher and first baseman Craig Westcott has been called up to the San Francisco Giants Class A Club of the Northwest League. Westcott will report to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in Salem, Oregon and make his first professional start today, the 31st of July.
Westcott was taken in the 30th round by the Giants in this summer Major League Baseball draft. He started the season in the Arizona Rookie League and posted a 4-0 record with a 0.69 ERA. Westcott recorded 21 strikeouts and allowed only three walks in 13 innings of work.
