December 14, 2009: Belhaven University will recognize fall graduates at the December 19th commencement exercises, to begin at 9:30 am at Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson. Dr. Billy Jang Hwan Kim, President of the Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC) in Korea, will deliver the commencement address.
Well known as an international evangelical leader, Dr. Kim has been working in Christian ministry for over five decades. He has led FEBC for over thirty years, and during this time the ministry has grown exponentially to include outreach to Korea, Russia, China, and Mongolia and beyond. Through his active and broad international ministry, Dr. Kim has become a highly respected leader among government and business leaders, as well as church leaders, around the globe. In 2000, Dr. Kim became the first Asian to be elected as President of the Baptist World Alliance.
Dr. Kim received his B.A. and M.A. from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, and he has received honorary degrees from eleven different institutions. He has also been decorated by the President of Korea on two separate occasions. Belhaven will also recognize Dr. Kim’s achievements by presenting him with an honorary doctorate at the commencement exercises this Saturday.
Reverend Bong Hee Cho, senior pastor of Global Mission Church in South Korea, will also receive an honorary doctorate at the Belhaven University commencement exercises.
