(January 13, 2009)–Belhaven College senior Nicole Nutting was honored for her academic achievement by the Mississippi Legislature during the 22nd Annual HEADWAE program. HEADWAE, Higher Education Appreciation Day/Working for Academic Excellence, was established in 1988 by legislative resolution to honor individual academic achievement and the overall contribution of the state public and private institutions of higher learning. It is the Legislature way of saying "thank you" to student and faculty honorees for their commitment to the future of Mississippi
Nutting, who is seeking a Belhaven music degree, was recognized along with students from 35 other Mississippi public and private universities and colleges. All honorees were welcomed by the Senate and House of Representatives at the State Capitol, given a tour of the Capitol, and recognized at the Awards Luncheon at the Marriott Hotel in Jackson. The Honorable Phil Bryant, Lieutenant Governor, and Chair of HEADWAE, served as the master of ceremonies. Pictured: Lt. Governor Phil Bryant congratulates Nicole Nutting for her HEADWAE award.
