December 9, 2009: The Orlando campus of Belhaven University will hold fall commencement exercises on December 10 at 6:30 pm at Reformed Theological Seminary in Oviedo, Florida. Dr. John E. Kim, Chancellor of the International Theological Seminary in El Monte, California, will present the commencement address.
Dr. Kim is widely recognized as a leading scholar in the field of historical theology in Asia. In 1995, he became President of Chong-Shin University and Seminary in South Korea, and prior to that he was the senior pastor at Los Angeles Christian Presbyterian Church, which is one of the largest Korean-American churches in the United States with over 2,000 members. It was with this church that Dr. Kim established the International Theological Seminary in Los Angeles for training worldwide church leaders.
Dr. Kim has also taken part in the formation of the International Reformed Fellowship (IRF), a conservative ecumenical organization organized as an alternative to the World Council of Churches, the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, and the Reformed Ecumenical Council. He holds a Bachelor of Divinity from Calvin Seminary; a Master of Theology from Westminster Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from Temple University.
