September 20, 2011 (Jackson) Belhaven Creative Writing Department will host a special guest poet, Darrell Bourque. Bourque is a two-time poet laureate from Louisiana, who will be visiting Belhaven for a workshop and public reading with students on Wednesday, September 21. Admission is free and starts at 6:00 p.m. in the Barber Auditorium.
Bourque was named Artist of the Year by the Acadiana Arts Council in 2001. He is the author of six books of poems, including the recent volume In Ordinary Light: New and Selected Poems (2010). Bourque was born in southwest Louisiana and began publishing poems while pursuing his Ph.D. at Florida State in the mid 1970s.
