January 5, 2011: Belhaven University is pleased to announce the first event in our new Health & Wellness Series. The first one is an informative lecture entitled, Know Your Healthy Numbers: Whats Your Health IQ? on Thursday, January 20 from 5:30 7:00pm, in Barber Auditorium.
This lecture addresses key stats that measure your baseline health. Do you know the healthy number for your blood pressure, heart rate, or body mass index? Gaining a grasp on these key numbers will help you measure and track your progress as you seek to improve your health in 2011! Dr. Quinton Dickenson and Dr. Richard Guynes, both highly respected Jackson Cardiologists, will share keen insights while the Belhaven University Sports Medicine and Exercise Science faculty and students will be available to perform baseline measurements for participants. All those attending will receive a free walking pedometer!
The BU Health & Wellness Series, which is free and open to the public, contains two key elements. First, are two designated walking trails of either 1 or 1/2 mile in length. Both trails lead walkers through the beautiful Belhaven campus and offer a safe and scenic way to walk your way towards a healthier life. The second component is the unique, educational, and hands-on programs that have been developed to help participants improve their health IQ. Designed to inform you about the fundamentals of a healthy lifestyle, the educational programs are led by experts in a variety of fields and will be enhanced through interaction with Belhaven University Sports Medicine and Exercise Science students and faculty.
