March 1, 2012 (Jackson) - Three Belhaven students from three different departments will be awarded literary honors for the 2012 Southern Literary Festival in Nashville. Anna Rebmann won first place for her one-act play. She is a senior from Gettysburg, PA and is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre.
Mary Mittewede won second place in the category of literary journal for her work in the Brogue. She is the student editor of the Brogue and a senior from Olive Branch, MS who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English.
Timothy Smith won third place in the short fiction category for his work in the Brogue. He is a junior from Montoursville, PA and is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing.
Dr. Randall Smith, Director of Creative Writing, said, “Counting the three Belhaven awards for the 2012 Southern Literary Festival, students at Belhaven have won 20 awards at the Festival over the past eight years. Our students have established this outstanding record while competing against undergraduate writers from many of the finest colleges and universities in the South.”
