September 16, 2013 (Jackson) - The Belhaven University Theatre Department is proud to present Ice Island. The play will be directed by Marianne Savell, Assistant Professor of Theatre, and will open on Thursday, September 19. The play will run for 7 days with performances every evening at 7:30 p.m. and matinee performances on Saturday the 21st and 28th at 2:00 p.m.
Presented in the Belhaven University Center for the Arts Flex Theatre, the story follows the crew of The Endurance, led by Sir Ernest Shackleton, and their failed attempt to cross the Arctic Ocean in 1914. With the ship lost to the ice, the crew is stranded a thousand miles from the nearest civilization and struggle to survive the extreme conditions. Written by Marjorie Duffield, this is a Regional Premiere Production. Ice Island features scenic and lighting design by guest artist Luis Ramirez. Will they survive or will the ice-cold abyss vanquish them?
