November 15, 2013 (Jackson) - Students from the Belhaven University Dance Department will present original choreographed performances at the DOXA Fall Dance Concert on November 21 and 22. DOXA, which means “praise” in Greek, is a student led dance club, where members use dance as a form of ministry and outreach. This year, all proceeds will benefit the dance department’s mission trip to Seoul, South Korea.
This performance, held in the Bitsy Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center Studio Theatre, will highlight emerging young choreographers from Belhaven, as they explore new ways to portray their creative artistry. Cynthia Newland, Dance Department Chair, said, “Our annual DOXA Fall Dance Concert is an exciting event containing student choreographic projects with all dances created and performed by students. Each year students take this opportunity to display unique dances showcasing their craftsmanship developed during their compositional and choreographic studies.”
General admission for the performance will be $2. There will be complimentary admission for Belhaven faculty, staff, students and immediate families. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the concert will begin at 6:30 p.m.
This is just one of the many exciting events from Belhaven’s School of the Arts. Check out Arts Ablaze for plays, dance and music concerts, poetry readings, gallery exhibits and more happening this year.
