February 27, 2013 (Jackson) - The Higher Education Appreciation Day, Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) honored Belhaven’s Rose Mary Foncree, Associate Professor of English and Allison Kalehoff, senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for their contributions to promoting academic excellence in higher education. Kalehoff is pursuing a Bachelor of Science Elementary Education.
The Appreciation Day, hosted by the Legislature each February, is the Legislature way of saying "thank you" to students and faculty for their commitment to the future of Mississippi.
One student and one faculty member from each of the 36 public and private institutions of the Mississippi Association of Colleges were invited to the State Capitol and recognized in each chamber of the Legislature. Tate Reeves, Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi, presented the awards and William Bennett, former Secretary of Education and best selling author spoke at the luncheon.
