March 24, 2014 (Jackson) - Ms. Amy Houghton, Classical Guitar Professor, will showcase her guitar talent and perform on Thursday, March 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Belhaven University Concert Hall. This free concert will feature composers of the Classical, Romantic and 20th Century periods as well as melodies of J.K. Mertz and the South American dance rhythms of Ernesto Cordero.
Houghton holds a Bachelor of Arts in both Guitar Performance and History from Belhaven University and a Masters Degree in Guitar Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi where she held an assistantship in 2009. Houghton served as an active member of the Belhaven Guitar Quartet from 2002-2006. She has been in master classes with Jason Vieux, Eliot Frank, Julian Gray, the Brazilian Guitar Quartet, the Canadian Guitar Quartet and others. Additionally, Houghton was an active member of the U.S.M. Guitar Society for three years, and served as the President of the Guitar Society in 2009. She is currently an adjunct professor of Guitar at Belhaven University, Copiah-Lincoln Community College, and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
