December 16, 2014 (Jackson) - Military Advanced Education (MAE) has awarded Belhaven University the designation of a Top School in its 2015 MAE Guide to Colleges & Universities, measuring best practices in military and veteran education.
The Guide, released in the December issue of MAE, presents results of a questionnaire of the military-supportive policies enacted at more than 600 institutions and equips students with information about institutions that go out of their way to give back to our men and women in uniform.
“We designed this database with the military student in mind,” said Kelly Fodel, MAE's editor, “We want to help them make informed choices, so we are giving them access to all the survey questions and answers provided by the schools, as well as explanations about critical issues like activation and deployment policies, withdrawal policies, scholarship and financial aid information and important support information.”
This year, institutes were evaluated on their military culture, financial aid, flexibility, on-campus support and online support services. Fodel adds, “We believe the Guide serves as an invaluable tool for both education services officers and transition officers when advising service members about their educational opportunities.”
Belhaven's Adult Studies program helps and supports military personnel in their goals for higher education. The adult studies program makes attending Belhaven more affordable for military by providing the Yellow Ribbon Program, grants and other incentives. Belhaven military benefits not only help with the financial side of education, but also extend into other areas. Each one of Belhaven's branch campuses include books into the cost of tuition, transcripts are requested and paid for by Belhaven, and the classes are flexible by meeting once a week.
Belhaven Online is also military friendly program and another reason why Belhaven made the list this year. Belhaven offers a tuition discount for active military, veterans and their spouses. The online program fits into the busy and mobile lifestyles of military and also provides a flexible schedule for military to earn a degree.
