January 24, 2014 (Jackson) - The Belhaven Creative Writing Department will welcome poet Catherine Pierce on campus January 27, 5:30 p.m. in the Student Center Theater. Pierce is the author of three books of poetry: The Girls of Peculiar, Famous Last Words, and Animals of Habit from which she will share some of her favorite poems with students. Her poems have appeared in the Best American Poetry, Boston Review, Ploughshares, The Cincinnati Review, Indiana Review, Gulf Coast, Mid-American Review, Mississippi Review and elsewhere.
Pierce grew up in Delaware, then earned her B.A. from Susquehanna University, her M.F.A. from the Ohio State University and her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. She lives in Starkville, Miss., where she teaches and co-directs the creative writing program at Mississippi State University. Admission is free and the doors open at 5 p.m.
