April 11, 2014 (Jackson) - Belhaven Senior and music major Ellen Wise will have her work featured at the Composers’ Orchestral Reading Session on Tuesday, April 15 at the Mississippi Museum of Art. Professional players with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra (MSO) will perform Wise’s composition as well as play the works of students from Mississippi College and Jackson State University.
Dr. Andrew Sauerwein, Associate Professor of Music, said, “Writing for a large ensemble is a complex, detailed process and it is quite rare for student composers to be able to hear their own orchestra work read by a professional orchestra, especially at the undergraduate level.”
This special event is free and will take place in the museum’s Trustmark Grand Hall. The concert will start at 5:30 p.m. and each piece will be read, discussed and read a second time. This process will give audience members an inside view of the music making process. “Ellie will get to hear the results of her musical labor and receive valuable feedback from Maestro Crafton Beck and the MSO players,” adds Dr. Sauerwein.
