April 30, 2014 (Jackson) - After 26 years of devoted service at Belhaven University, Dr. Sandra Rasberry is retiring at the end of this academic year. Dr. Rasberry started teaching at Belhaven in 1988 and has served as the Dean of The School of Education since 2002. Beginning her teaching career in 1970, Dr. Rasberry has taught in public schools, primarily in the field of special education, and has worked for the Mississippi Department of Education.
Last week the Teacher Education Accreditation Committee visited the campus and gave a positive accrediting report of the Belhaven University School of Education. The committee said that the department was a model teacher education program in the state. “This glowing report from the Teacher Education Accreditation Committee is a wonderful capstone to an outstanding career of service,” said Belhaven University President Dr. Roger Parrott. “Scores of teachers have been prepared to be the very best because of Sandra's leadership at Belhaven and she leaves a legacy that will only be measured in eternity.”
During her tenure at Belhaven, the program has grown to include three master's programs that are offered on four branch campuses. Those who had the opportunity to work alongside Dr. Rasberry or be one of the many students who passed through her classroom, have been tremendously affected by her teaching and leadership.
