July 17, 2014 (Jackson) - Students majoring in social work were actively involved in service projects this past semester through His Hands His Feet. The club was formed to raise awareness of social issues, serve and minister to the surrounding community as well as participate in many service projects, inner city ministries and workdays.
Members of the organization assisted the Attorney General's office with the function of training cadets at the Police Academy and Highway Patrol Academy in the area of domestic violence and human trafficking signs and symptoms. Also, junior and senior students completed a Community Needs Assessment for the Spencer Perkins Center.
Students organized a poverty awareness project on campus and displayed information about poverty in the Jackson, Miss. area. They also baked items and exchanged those for donated canned items or money. The money was used to purchase food and was then prepared and served at We Will Go Ministries in Downtown Jackson. His Hands His Feet fed over 100 individuals. The Canned items were donated to Grace House, a hospice ministry for homeless individuals with HIV.
