November 19, 2015 (Jackson, Miss.) - The Choral and Vocal Arts Concert on November 22 will feature the sacred choral and vocal music of American composers. The free performance will take place at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4000 Ridgewood Road, at 7:00 p.m. The Belhaven Concert Choir and Belhaven Chorale will showcase music from Dan Forrest, Daniel Gawthrop, Robert Ray, Moses Hogan, John Leavitt, Dan Miller and Leonard Bernstein.
Dr. Christopher Shelt, Professor of Music, said, “This concert of sacred music will open with a larger work, Missa Festiva, by John Leavitt which was performed with dancers for the inauguration of the Belhaven University Center of the Performing Arts. The rest of the concert will be rounded out with anthems by Dan Forrest, Stephen Gawthrop, and Moses Hogan and with selections by several student vocal soloists. It will be a lovely evening of worshipful vocal music, in varied American styles.”
