November 6, 2015 (Jackson, Miss.) - Five students from Belhaven's Psychology Department won an award for best undergraduate psychology research at the Annual Convention of the Mississippi Psychological Association on September 16, 2015 in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
The students conceived, designed and conducted their original study as part of the undergraduate Honors Research class taught by Dr. Scott White, Professor of Psychology. “I'm proud of the success of our students,” said Dr. White. “Their creativity and hard work really paid off. I hope this experience gives them confidence to pursue their professional dreams.”
Danielle Holloway, Samantha Lunde, Kyle Morrow, Casey Nelms and Jordan Organ presented their study to psychologists and other participants at the annual convention who then voted for the best undergraduate poster at the convention. Lunde, who was the only junior of the class, presented the project at the conference.
The title of their study was “The Psychology of Moral Conviction: Disgust As a Function of Moral Judgment.” The class researched nearly 100 subjects and explored the idea of how the emotion of disgust can lead to judging others more harshly.
