October 26, 2015 (Jackson, Miss.) - The Belhaven Theatre Department is bringing all of the beloved characters you know and love from film to stage with the premiere of Shrek the Musical. Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks movie, this lighthearted musical will debut in the Belhaven Blackbox Theatre on the following dates:
Friday, November 6, 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, November 7, 7:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. matinee
Wednesday, November 11, 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, November 12, 7:30 p.m.
Friday, November 13, 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, November 14, 2:00 p.m. matinee
“If I could describe Shrek the Musical in three words, it would be fun, colorful and magical,” said Sarah Wolfe, who plays multiple characters. “The show encompasses everything you could possibly imagine! Music, dancing, fairytale creatures, realistic princesses and fantastic songs are just a glimpse of the wonderful things to be seen and heard.”
Dr. David Sollish, Associate Professor of Musical Theatre, is directing the show and said, “The cast, crew and production staff are incredibly talented, and we have worked extremely hard to bring this poignant and funny tale to life onstage. The audience will be singing, laughing and dancing in the aisles as the story focuses on a world of difference, acceptance and-above all else-love.”
Madison Parrott will take a lead role as Donkey and adds, “The message of Shrek is a good one. Whether you're looking for a community to accept you, a best friend to spend your days with or the person you're going to marry, there is someone out there who will love you as you are. It may take some time to really connect with them, like Shrek and Donkey's friendship, but you will find those who will love and accept you without making you change.”
