October 21, 2015 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven University Vocal Arts will perform Belhaven on Broadway in Fondren's Duling Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 26 as a benefit production for MS Opera. MS Opera Artistic Director, Jay Dean invited Dr. Christopher Shelt, Professor of Music at Belhaven University to produce a Broadway revue, which came to be called Belhaven on Broadway. This production is an opportunity to experience the magic of musical theatre at its finest, while supporting the MS Opera.
The show has eight Belhaven cast members, including present students and some recent alumni. Dr. Shelt comments, “Belhaven has produced a number of very fine Broadway performers. This is an outstanding cast, many having won numerous regional vocal awards. For instance, Jessica Ziegelbauer just won the student division in the MS Opera Vocal Competition. Many of the students and alumni in the production could have done the entire show by themselves. I had lots of repertoire to choose from! Some of the singers are active professional performers, recording albums.”
Audience members can expect great variety of singing and performances that capture the panorama of human emotion in song.
