September 20, 2017 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven alumna and Juilliard graduate Jocelyn Zhu '13 will join fellow Juilliard violinist Mariella Haubs to perform at An Evening of Diamonds I, Violin Duo on September 26, 7:30 p.m. This performance from the Belhaven Music Department is free and will take place in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall.
The violin virtuosos will perform music from artists who faced adversity in their lives and communities. Compositions from Leclair, Prokofiev, Shostakovich and John Williams as well as African-American spirituals will be masterfully performed during the concert.
A former student of Belhaven music professor Song Xie, Zhu began her university studies at the age of 14. She earned her master's degree at The Juilliard School, under the instruction of Catherine Cho and Hyo Kang. Zhu is the recipient of multiple music scholarships and grants, and she has won numerous violin competitions
Zhu has been invited to perform in venues such as The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, David Geffen Hall. She has worked closely with musicians such as Alan Gilbert, David Finckel, Jerome Lowenthal, Lawrence Dutton, Roger Tapping, Joseph Kalichstein, The Enso Quartet, and Joseph Lin.
