June 8, 2017 (Jackson, Miss.) - The Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education (MAAE) honored Gigi Turner, chair and associate professor of Belhaven's Graphic Design Department, with the 2017 Excellence in Higher Education Award.
“We are proud of Gigi, and this award reaffirms the quality of her exemplary leadership within the graphic design department,” said Belhaven President Dr. Roger Parrott. “She epitomizes the mission and vision of Belhaven, while sharing her knowledge and passion for the arts. The success of her students is a testament to her commitment in giving her students the finest in Christian higher education.”
Judy Duncan, MAAE president-elect and chair, said, “It is clear that her dedication and commitment to the greater good of the arts as an active component of the curriculum at Belhaven is having a profound impact and as such deserves to be recognized and celebrated.”
Turner received her B.F.A. in Graphic Design from The University of Southern Mississippi. With more than two decades of experience as a professional designer, she brings a wealth of practical experience to the graphic design program at Belhaven. She serves on the advising board for Madison County Technical Center and is involved in work with the Jackson Disrict 7 chapter of the American Advertising Federation. She is currently in the progress of completing her M.F.A. in graphic design.
The award ceremony is on June 14, 5 p.m. at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
