March 29, 2017 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven's Student Invitational Art Exhibition is the centerpiece of the year for the visual art department and showcases a variety of artwork from freshmen to seniors. This annual exhibit is juried and highlights a wide range of styles and media including drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and mixed media.
Students work hard to have their art selected for the premiere. This unique exhibit is a direct result from the department's practicum period, a part of the year when visual art majors engage in concentrated, individualized pursuit of the art-making process. The goal of practicum is to help each student focus on and identify their own unique artistic abilities and work toward a career in the arts.
The opening reception will be at the Bitsy Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center Gallery on Saturday, April 1, 2-4 p.m.
This art exhibition is free and open to the public. The art will be on display for a month and exhibit hours include Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
