March 14, 2018 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven University's Madison campus is now offering a Bachelor of Social Work, designed for working adults who want a career devoted to helping individuals, families, groups, or organizations at a local and global level.
The University's motto, “To Serve, Not to be Served,” not only lends itself to the study of social work, but the practice of the profession. Social work is a profession focused on helping, with an overall goal to improve society's well-being, especially for the most vulnerable populations.
Dr. Angela Gaddis, chair of Belhaven's Social Work Department, said, “The social work courses offered at the Madison campus are tailored to meet the needs of working individuals. The courses will have the same content as those offered on our traditional campus; however, the program will allow individuals who are already employed to complete their courses at night.”
Social workers can work in a variety of fields that include healthcare organizations, mental health centers, child welfare agencies, nursing homes, community centers, non-profits, schools, government agencies, youth courts, and treatment centers.
Belhaven's skilled professors integrate current social work methods with a Christian perspective, and show students why social work is a rewarding, purpose-driven career. Dr. Gaddis adds, “Belhaven believes in having a positive social and spiritual impact on this world and prepares students to enter into the social work profession with the skill, knowledge, and experience to do so. The program moves from an in-depth study of social work to a practiced application of theories and principles.”
The program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, which allows its graduates to sit for the social work licensure exam and to have an academic foundation for graduate school in social work.
