January 18, 2018 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven has added a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice to the University's list of quality programs. This new degree prepares students for all facets of the criminal justice system and incorporates fields such as business, political science, psychology, sociology, and social work to give students additional career options.
“This degree is designed with breadth in mind to prepare students for a myriad of careers,” said Michael Bednarczuk, assistant professor and chair of Belhaven's Department of Public Administration. With a curriculum built on courses not only in criminal justice, this degree leads to well-rounded graduates ready for the workplace. What better way to serve others than through committing yourself to a career focused on serving and protecting your fellow man.”
Students who graduate with a criminal justice degree go on to work in state, municipal, or federal law enforcement. Many others work in corrections, forensic science, or even in courtrooms. More specifically, students may become police officers, crime scene investigators, FBI agents, corrections managers, forensic accountants, or paralegals.
Faculty members who have extensive backgrounds in law enforcement, legal affairs, and homeland security are committed to teaching criminal justice from a Christian worldview.
Bednarczuk adds, “Those who major in criminal justice gain a better understanding of the many factors that impact both the causes and consequences of crime, and the decisions made by those in criminal justice can literally involve life and death. Given the gravity of the choices that they must make, it is important that those making decisions are grounded in a Christian worldview.”
