February 15, 2019 (Jackson, Miss.) - Professor of Music Dr. Andrew Sauerwein received the prestigious 2018-2019 Mississippi Humanities Council Teacher Award. This special award recognizes the contribution of humanities faculty at each of the state's colleges and universities.
Belhaven University Provost Dr. Bradford Smith said, Dr. Andy Sauerwein brings amazing creativity and interdisciplinary breadth to his students. His blend of warmth and expertise helps students find their own compositional voice. It is fitting that he is recognized with this prestigious award for his outstanding contribution as part of Mississippi's humanities faculty and service to Belhaven students.
Each honoree is required to deliver a public lecture. Dr. Sauerwein will give his presentation on Tuesday, February 19 at 4 p.m. in Belhaven's Student Center Theatre. His lecture, entitled In Pursuit of Radical Music-Making, is free and open to the public. There will be a reception immediately following his lecture.
All award recipients will be recognized at the Mississippi Humanities Council's annual awards banquet in the spring. The Mississippi Humanities Council is a private nonprofit corporation funded by Congress through the National Endowment for the Humanities, and provides public programs in traditional liberal arts disciplines to serve nonprofit groups in Mississippi.
