February 5, 2019 (Jackson, MIss.) - Belhaven University will host the second annual New Music Jackson Festival. Students and faculty from four Jackson-area colleges and universities will take part in this all-day festival on Saturday, February 9.
With the purpose of fostering a local music culture, the event will feature new compositions by students, faculty and composers from Millsaps College, Belhaven University, Mississippi College, and Jackson State University.
This year's festival will also include an open panel discussion and a vocal master class with Moon-Sook Park, a soprano and associate professor of music and voice at the University of Arkansas.
10 a.m. - Vocal Masterclass: Moon-Sook Park
1 p.m. - Discussion: "Challenges of New Classical Music"
2:30 p.m. - Concert 1: Student Composers
4:30 p.m. - Concert 2: Professional Composers
Both concerts are free and open to the public and will take place in the Belhaven Center for the Arts Concert Hall. The 2:30 p.m. performance will feature the compositions of students and the 4:30 p.m. concert will showcase the work of faculty and professional composers.
