October 10, 2019 (Jackson, Miss.) - The Belhaven Theatre Department will present a series of short plays in different locations throughout the main Belhaven campus.
The Mysteries follows the medieval tradition of performing a series of biblical stories in an outdoor festival setting. These roaming plays focus on the mystery of God's relationship with the world. Performances range from the fantastic Creation Play to the melodramatic Abraham and Isaac to the slapstick Second Shepard's Play to the terrifying Hell's Mouth.
Professor of Theatre Joseph Frost has adapted the Mysteries and will take the lead as director. “Our production will recreate the festival atmosphere by performing on a pageant wagon and holding performances at several locations on our main campus and around the Jackson area,” said Frost.
“On the day of the show, we will post a photo of where the show will be on the Belhaven Theatre Department's Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter,” adds Frost. “So, follow our social media sites to know where the next pop-up show will be. We also want to encourage the audience to bring blankets and chairs to sit on.”
These performances are free and open to all. Showtimes include:
