April 16, 2020 (Jackson, Miss.) - The Belhaven University Music Department is introducing a new choir that will be open to all students. The BU Worship Choir will premiere Fall 2020 and will be a large, non-audition ensemble that focuses on dynamic music of the church, both contemporary and traditional.
TheBU Worship Choiris the perfect opportunity for students to join in community and purpose, said Dr. Doran Bugg, chair of Belhaven's Music Department. Rehearsals will be a welcomed release-valve from academic and emotional stressors. Because it's open to all students, singers from all areas of Belhaven's student body can connect with each other through celebrating Jesus with dynamic music and worship.Don't miss out!
BUWorship Choir (MUS-EC1) is one credit and will meet Tuesday and Thursdays, 2:45 - 4 p.m. The choir will participate in a variety of performances during the year. The ensemble will present evening concerts in the Fall and Spring,periodically lead in weekly Chapel services, and participate in University's biggest annual tradition,The Belhaven Singing Christmas Tree.
Bugg adds, Participants shouldenjoy using their singing ability to worship, and lead others in worship, withcontagious enthusiasm and charisma.
Accompaniment will vary from piano and guitar to a rhythm section and acapella. All traditional students are encouraged to join the choir, and no audition is necessary. Music majors who are vocalists must participate inBU Worship ChoirorBU Chorale (audition required). All students enrolled in private voice lessons must also participate in the worship choir. Students entering Belhaven as freshmen in Fall 2020 are eligible to receive a special scholarship by participating in the BU Worship Choir.
