Belhaven Debuts Summer Film Camp for Aspiring Young Filmmakers
May 31, 2024 (Jackson, Miss.) - The Belhaven University Film Production department is set to launch its first-ever Film Camp this summer, June 10 - 14. This immersive, hands-on experience targets rising eighth graders through high school seniors, offering them a unique opportunity to explore filmmaking on the Belhaven University campus.
Under the guidance of Rick Negron, Belhaven’s Chair of Film Production, students will learn essential filmmaking techniques, including shooting, lighting, sound recording, and collaborative project creation. The camp ensures an intimate learning environment, allowing for personalized instruction and feedback.
“I want to give middle and high school students the opportunity to learn skills and technology that we teach at the college level that will help them make better videos right away,” said Negron. “It will be a fun, hands-on time, and I'm looking forward to the screening night where family and friends will get to come and see what we've accomplished over the week.”
The camp runs daily from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., providing students with ample time each day to practice their new skills and work on short film projects. The week will culminate in a special screening event on Monday, June 17, at 7 p.m., where family and friends are invited to view the students' completed works.
The cost for the week-long camp is $200. Interested participants can find more information and register at Belhaven University Film Camp Registration.
