Belhaven University to Host Guest Artist Jordan Hess

September 23, 2024 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven University will welcome guest artist and alumnus Jordan Hess ‘09 for a series of events from September 27 to November 9, showcasing his unique approach to sculpture and installation art.

Hess, a New Orleans-based artist, will lead a masterclass on September 27, including a gallery talk from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and a process demonstration from 1 to 3 p.m., both in the Bitsy Irby Gallery.

The exhibition, titled “Unfading Moths and Immortal Flies,” will open with a reception on September 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Bitsy Irby Gallery. Hess' artwork will be on display through November 9.

Jordan Hess currently lives and works in New Orleans, Louisiana. Hess is a sculptor and installation artist drawing on Mississippi River folklore and mythology to create found object interventions. Since moving to Louisiana in 2018, Hess has focused on the Mississippi River landscape as a source of inspiration and materials for his sculptures and installations. Hess’ overall work explores and questions ideas of value and preciousness, while simultaneously emphasizing the human impact on the river and landscape beyond.

Belhaven University's Bitsy Irby Gallery invites the public to attend these events and experience Hess's thought-provoking work. For more information, please visit Belhaven University's website or contact the Art Department at (601) 968-5940.
