Theatre Department to Present Musical Glimpses of the Moon
September 30, 2024 (Jackson, Miss.) – The Belhaven Theatre Department will host the vibrant Jazz Age musical, "Glimpses of the Moon," from October 24 - November 2 in the Blackbox Theatre.
Directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre Jeff Allen Young, the musical features lyrics by Tajlei Levis and music by John Mercurio. "Glimpses of the Moon," based on the Edith Wharton novel, brings the exuberance of 1922 New York society to the stage. The production is “filled with fun characters and iconic design elements,” claims Young.
Set against the backdrop of the Jazz Age, the story follows the popular but penniless Susy and her friend Nick, who concoct a plan to marry for financial gain and then search for wealthy suitors. The scheme goes awry when the pair unexpectedly falls in love. Broadway World praised the production as "one of the best new musicals we’ve seen in ages," calling it "a well-crafted, witty musical comedy" and "a sparkling valentine to the Jazz Age."
