Belhaven University to Host Concert Celebrating Poetry and Music
November 12, 2024 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven University’s Music Department will present “Poets Corner,” a concert inspired by Westminster Abbey’s famed Poets’ Corner, on Tuesday, November 19 at 7 p.m. in the Center of the Arts Concert Hall.
The Belhaven Chorale and Women’s Ensemble will perform choral arrangements set to well-known poems, creating a unique experience that brings celebrated literary works to life through music. The program combines the power of song with timeless poetry, honoring great poets.
“This concert is something special—you’ll get to hear beautiful choral settings of classic poems by writers like Shakespeare, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Longfellow, and Lewis Carroll,” said Dr. Rebecca Geihsler, Associate Professor and Chair of the Music Department. “Inspired by the famous Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey, the Belhaven Chorale will bring these timeless words to life through music that’s both moving and full of charm. It’s the perfect chance to experience the depth and beauty of these beloved poets in a way that’s fresh and inspiring.”
Admission to the concert is free, and doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The event will also stream live on the Belhaven University Music Department’s Facebook page for those unable to attend in person.
