Belhaven University to Host Annual Student Art & Design Exhibition
March 8, 2025 (Jackson, Miss.) - The Annual Student Art and Design Exhibition is the centerpiece of the year for Belhaven's Visual Art Department, and it showcases artwork from its majors.
This annual exhibit is juried and curated by faculty, and it highlights a wide range of styles and media including drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and mixed media.
None of the work included in this show was made for a class, but reflects the vision and expertise developed by each student as they pursue their various disciplines.
The opening reception for the 2025 Annual Student Art and Design Exhibition is April 12, 2-4 p.m. in the Bitsy Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center Gallery.
"Our students are diverse in their backgrounds and work, which makes for a rich and dynamic exhibition,” said Gallery Director and Specialty Instructor of Art and Design Brittany Davis. “There is something for everyone in this show and I'm excited for the public to see it!"
Students work hard to have their art selected for the premiere. This unique exhibit is a direct result from the department's practicum period; a part of the year when visual art majors engage in concentrated, individualized pursuits of the art-making process. Practicum helps each student focus on and identify their own unique artistic abilities, while preparing them for a career in the arts.
The exhibition is open to the public and will be on display April 12 – summer break. The Gallery is located in the Bitsy Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center Gallery and hours include Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
