Belhaven University Welcomes Dr. Willie Benson as Full-Time Faculty Member

April 11, 2025 (Jackson, Miss.) – Belhaven University has welcomed Dr. Willie Benson as a full-time assistant professor and chair of the information technology program in the School of Business. Dr. Benson brings a wealth of expertise in cybersecurity, IT project management, and computer science.

Dr. Benson has had an extensive career spanning higher education, corporate leadership, and military service. Before transitioning to his full-time role at Belhaven, he served as a senior project manager at C Spire and chief information officer at Alcorn State University. With more than two decades of experience in IT governance, strategic planning, and cybersecurity, Dr. Benson's leadership and technical acumen have influenced institutions across Mississippi.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Benson to our full-time faculty,” said Dr. Brett Andrews, dean of the Belhaven University School of Business. “His experience in academia and industry equips our students with the real-world skills they need to excel in today’s rapidly evolving technology landscape.”

Dr. Benson holds a Ph.D. in higher urban education from Jackson State University and multiple degrees in computer science and IT project management. His professional background includes roles in network security, programming, and IT administration. At Belhaven, he will continue teaching courses in cybersecurity, database management, and software development, preparing students for careers in the ever-growing tech industry.
