Traditional & Online Bachelor’s Degrees

Earn your BSN on campus

You can complete our pre-licensure BSN degree in four years. In the first two years, you’ll take general classes and specific nursing prerequisites. The final two years of the program include your core nursing classes. You don’t need prior nursing education or experience for this pathway.

Earn your BSN online.

Experience the utmost affordability with our online RN to BSN program, unmatched in Mississippi. Our program also offers the flexibility to complete your degree at an accelerated pace, rivaling any other program in the state.

If you’re a currently practicing registered nurse with an associate degree or diploma in nursing, you can complete your RN to BSN degree entirely online in one year. Some prerequisite courses may be required, though, so be sure to speak with your academic advisor.

Tell Me More: Performance Standards & Admission Process

There are a limited number of available seats in our BSN programs, so admission is highly competitive. To be considered, you must first be accepted into the university.

The School of Nursing requires an additional application and admissions process. Pre-licensure students are encouraged to apply by March 1 for fall admission. RN to BSN students may apply at any time since the online program begins each semester.

To begin the process, complete the University Application Form. Upon acceptance to Belhaven, you may apply using the Pre-Licensure BSN Application or the RN to BSN Application.

To succeed in our nursing program and the wider world of fast-paced health care, you must have a variety of skills. Those skills include problem-solving, the ability to communicate and collaborate with others, and certain psychomotor and sensory skills. Learn more about the performance standards expected of Belhaven nursing students and graduates.

The School of Nursing has established a set of 13 baccalaureate program outcomes:

  1. Synthesize concepts from a liberal arts Christian education to develop a philosophy of care that guides professional nursing practice.
  2. Apply organizational, leadership, and management concepts in the provision of high quality nursing care.
  3. Provide evidence-based, clinically competent patient-centered care which represents the patient’s preferences, values, diversity, and needs within the context of their families, communities and the health care delivery system.
  4. Use relevant technology to provide nursing care that contributes to safe and high quality client outcomes.
  5. Demonstrate effective critical thinking, communication, assessment, and technical skills in the practice of professional nursing.
  6. Plan, implement, and evaluate client-centered care that demonstrates the safe application of the pathophysiological, medical, and nursing management of common acute and chronic illnesses, health promotion, risk reduction and disease prevention.
  7. Generate clinical judgments based on assessment data and implement interventions to achieve individual/family/population-centered outcomes.
  8. Provide nursing care guided by professional nursing practice standards, healthcare policies, applicable statutes and regulations, and safe environmental health practices.
  9. Coordinate and manage healthcare for a group of individuals across the lifespan in order to maximize health, independence, and quality of life.
  10. Provide health-related education to restore health and promote optimal wellness.
  11. Use data to monitor the outcomes of care processes and use improvement methods to design and test changes to continuously improve the quality and safety of health care systems.
  12. Integrate Christian values of altruism, autonomy, human dignity, integrity, and social justice in the practice of nursing.
  13. Reflect a commitment to self-development and the advancement of the profession of nursing through participation in educational, community, and organizational activities.

If you’re looking to pursue the Pre-Licensure BSN at Belhaven, you’ll need to take the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). This nationally recognized nursing school entrance exam tests your abilities in areas like English, math, and science. You must score a minimum of 66 on the exam to be considered for admission.

Blessing of the Hands Ceremony

Each year, nursing students participating in their first clinical experience take part in the Blessing of the Hands ceremony. The ceremony — attended by family members and friends — is a beloved tradition and includes an inspiring message, a time of worship, and a prayer for these up-and-coming servant leaders.
