A Celebrated Haven for Arts Education

Kaitlyn's Discover Day Experience

Exciting, fun, motivating—all of these words describe my Arts Discover Day visit. I was able to learn about my major in-depth, meet some wonderful faculty members, and talk with many students about their experiences at Belhaven. It wasn't until I had the amazing opportunity to stay on campus and see how student life would be that I realized Belhaven was the right choice for me.

"I chose to come to Belhaven because of the Creative Writing program and its context as a Christian University. All my relationships here have meant a lot to me, but one particular group is the cheerleaders and how they welcomed me into their ranks and worked with my minimal abilities patiently and with much encouragement."

Lex Avellino

Christian Venzen

"My favorite thing about Belhaven is the fact that it is Christ-centered. It’s the perfect place for young adults who are seeking or growing in their faith and relationship with Jesus Christ."

Christian Venzen

"I chose to attend Belhaven because of it's Christian worldview and has separate dance and theatre departments and would allow me to double major. My fellow students are not only my close friends, but also my biggest supporters and collaborators. I feel confident in pursuing my goals as a professional performer and choreographer. I am being equipped and encouraged every semester!"

Liz Morales

Caleb Moak

"I"ll graduate with a B.A. in Tradigital Studies, with an emphasis in sculpture. I use 3D prints and discarded plastic filament to create abstract sculptures. I'm inspired by metalworkers and emerging technologies, so my work reflects the many possibilities of machines used in unusual ways. I also use unconventional methods of digital photography, such as laser engraving my photos into glass."

Caleb Moak

"Because of my degree from Belhaven University I will be prepared to be a professional musician. I’ll have the tools and relationships I need to be a successful musician."

Zakary Joyner

Nicole Nutting

"Belhaven has helped me improve immensely in my skills as a pianist and accompanist and I am much more prepared to enter the world of professionals. I was attracted to Belhaven by the quality of music instruction and the focus on Christ through the entire university."

Nicole Nutting

Demarcus Suggs

"Belhaven is preparing me to share the gift of creativity through movement in a multitude of capacities. I can teach, perform, be involved in the technical and administrative aspects of production, as well as pursue further education in dance."

Demarcus Suggs

Seth Scruggs

"I chose to study Film Production at Belhaven because I loved the dedication to developing the whole person, in addition to the skills that are needed to succeed as a filmmaker. My degree from Belhaven will give me the practical knowledge to pursue a career doing something I love to do."

Seth Scruggs

"In the Belhaven Visual Arts department I have learned how to ‘see’ art—not just looking at it, but noticing all the technical details, engaging with a piece mentally and emotionally, understanding why a piece makes me feel a certain way, and having some idea of the artist’s intentions. Now I understand how to see and feel art."

Deja Harris

"I was looking for a faith-based college with a Creative Writing program. Belhaven was the right fit. The intimacy of the whole department is great. The faculty want to help us grow and succeed and become better writers."

Jennifer Wells

Ben Laws

"My continuous line pieces began with a lingering interest in the doodles my father left around the house while on phone calls, and evolved as I began to explore the potential behind one (or two) line's journey across a surface. They explore themes of gestalt, hyper focus and motivated perception – merging my interest in generative forms and fine detail."

Ben Laws. 2023

"Belhaven places such a high emphasis and appreciation for the arts that is rare to find in other schools. The fifth-year free promise for double majors is an added perk that I knew I wanted to take advantage of and allows me to pursue other interests. Because of my degree from Belhaven I feel prepared to take on a career in the arts while focusing on my values."

Mandi Redmond

Sarah Rider

"My favorite thing about being at Belhaven is the warm community students create with one another and the way that our faculty shows that they genuinely care about us as spiritual, emotional, and physical beings."

Sarah Rider

Victoria Jelstrom

"I was attracted to Belhaven because its one of the few performing arts schools in the country that operates with more than just a nod to the Christian perspective. Belhaven has equipped me to teach, direct, perform, choreograph, compose and work in music ministry."

Victoria Jelstrom

Kieryn Freeman

"My favorite thing about Belhaven is the small, tight-knit community and how the professors work with and mentor students individually to help them succeed in all areas. I hope to have many connections to Christian artists after leaving Belhaven. I hope having these connections will help me in both areas of creative writing and dance."
